How to Take Your Business to the Next Level

A lot of tradies don’t sit down and work this out. From Monday to Sunday – you’ve maybe worked 12 or 14 hour days – how much have you actually turned over? Sit down and work out how much you turned over that week and divide it into how many hours you worked.

It’ll probably work out to be about 5 or 6 bucks an hour and you’ll want to quit. But I want to explain to you why you shouldn’t get pulled down into the numbers like that. I want to show you how to revolutionise your business and get a systematic approach so that you could take that blood-sucking machine that you call a business and turn it into something profitable.

For a long long time I sat down and just thought of myself with my electrical hat on – yes I’m a sparky – and used to see myself as a tradesman working from 6am to 4pm then doing admin stuff at home. It was all too much.

But then I started to put my sales hat on. It wasn’t until I did that that I started to realise that I could take a silly numbing electrical business and turn it into a multi-million dollar company. 

I stopped looking at myself as being an electrician and started looking at myself as being a salesman. And this is what I want you guys to start doing too. Take off your tradesman hat and put your sales hat on. Then start to look at how you can drive sales to get more employees in so that – when you do sit down and work out your week divided into your hours – you’re not looking at an hourly rate anymore, you’re looking at a total profit. And that profit’s going to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars if you do it right.

I want you guys to start looking at how you can start increasing revenue. Increase the revenue and then you can increase your employees. Increase your employees and you can start to delegate more and step out of the business. Stop working in it and start working ON it.
